![]() MC Paul Barman
It's Very Stimulating
Okay, all of the above is complete bullshit. What can I say? It's just the rationalize-everything part of me trying to justify why I can't stop listening to MC Paul Barman's debut EP, It's Very Stimulating. See, Paul is a geeky white guy who has contributed his word puzzles to Games magazine. He's a rapper with questionable talents on the mic but undeniably great rhymes. He's also fairly obsessed with doing the nasty, or, as he calls it, "back-and-forth shagging sports." "My sex life is pathetic," he admits on the disc's introduction. "That's why I fantasize in four out of five songs." And his fantasies are a riot: wooing a fly cashier who's cuter than Nermal (you know, from "Garfield"), using a turkey baster as a makeshift dildo, diving into her cervix a lot like Sir Mix-A-Lot. Amazingly, even when he is neck-deep in innuendo, Paul never comes off as a misogynous asshole (see Biggie, Dr. Dre, Eminem, et al.). This could be because he thankfully refrains from using terms like "bitch" and "ho," but mostly it's because he's oddly proud of his geekdom; in the album's very first couplet he declares "I'm hung like a birthmark!" (Go Pa-aul! Go Pa-aul! It's your birthday!) The peak of the 18-minute long disc is "MTV Get Off the Air, Part 2," which has nothing to do with MTV and everything to do with smooching Princess Superstar's pooper hole all through the Super Bowl. Paul and the Princess retain a hilariously raunchy chemistry for nearly the duration of the track, with only 1999's Producer-of-the-Year Prince Paul occasionally interjecting with some well-placed musical comedy. Actually, the whole damn thing is riotously funny. Enjoy it. No justification needed. Rating: 9
